# AI Co-writer

> Use the AI co-writer in Skaz Studio to draft whole branches, choices and variable logic from a plain-language prompt, then review before applying.

The AI co-writer is a chat assistant built into the editor that can draft
entire branches — text, choices, and variable logic — for you to review and
drop into your story.

> Available on the **Creator** and **Pro** [plans](/plans). On the Free plan the
> **AI** tab shows an upgrade prompt instead of the chat — see
> [Plans & Pricing](/plans) to unlock it.

## Using it

Open the **AI** tab in the right-hand panel and describe what you want in
plain language — a scene, a branching choice, a twist, a whole opening act.
The assistant sees your story's current blocks, choices, and variables as
context, so it can reference what already exists and stay consistent with it.

While it's working you'll see status updates (connecting → thinking →
writing → building) and a live count of blocks as they're drafted.

## Reviewing a draft

Instead of dropping loose text into the chat, the assistant proposes a
**draft** — a preview card showing the blocks, choices, and variables it wants
to add. Nothing is written into your story until you review it.

- **Apply** — adds the drafted blocks and choices to your canvas, connected as
proposed. You can then edit anything by hand, or press `Ctrl+Z` to undo the
  whole thing.
- Keep chatting to ask for changes before applying, or ignore the draft and
  carry on building by hand.

Because the AI works from a preview you approve, it never overwrites or deletes
what you already have — it only adds when you say **Apply**. Always
[preview](/guide/previewing) an AI-generated branch before publishing to make
sure it plays the way you expect.

## What it can generate

The co-writer can create [Text](/guide/blocks#text),
[User Input](/guide/blocks#user-input),
[Set Variable Value](/guide/blocks#set-variable-value),
[Change Variable Value](/guide/blocks#change-variable-value), and
[Variable Router](/guide/blocks#variable-router) blocks — the same block
types you can add by hand from the toolbar. It won't set a starting block or
publish your story for you; those steps are still manual. See
[Editor Basics](/guide/editor-basics) and
[Publishing & Sharing](/guide/publishing).
