# Account & Sign In

Source: https://docs.skaz.io/account

> One Skaz account for Studio and the player: signing up, logging in, verifying your email and what your profile is used for.

One account covers everything in Skaz — building stories in
[Studio](https://studio.skaz.io) and reading them at
[skaz.io](https://skaz.io). Sign up or log in in either place and you're
signed in across both.

## Signing up

Go to [skaz.io/signup](https://skaz.io/signup) and fill in:

- **First and last name** — shown as the author on stories you publish.
- **Email** — used to sign in and to receive your verification code.
- **Password** — at least 8 characters.
- **Country**
- **Birthdate** — picked from a calendar. It's used to gate
[18+ content](#age-and-adult-content); you must be at least 13 to create
  an account.

> Your birthdate is never shown to anyone else. It's only used to check whether
> you're old enough to view or create adult-flagged (18+) stories.

## Verifying your email

Right after signing up you'll land on a verification screen. Check your inbox
for a **6-character code** and type it into the six boxes — it verifies
automatically the moment the last box is filled, so there's no submit button
to press. You can't sign in until your email is verified.

Didn't get the code? Wait a moment (it can take a minute to arrive), check
your spam folder, and use the **resend** option on the verification screen if
you still don't see it.

## Logging in

Go to [skaz.io/login](https://skaz.io/login) and enter your email and
password.

If you follow a link that needs an account — opening Studio, or an 18+ story —
while you're signed out, Skaz sends you to the login screen first and returns
you to where you were headed once you're in.

To sign out, use the **log-out button** on your profile badge (top-right of
the Studio dashboard). It signs you out everywhere and returns you to the
login screen.

## Age and adult content

Your birthdate controls two things:

- **Marking your own story as 18+** — the 18+ option only appears when
  [creating a story](/guide/creating-a-story#18-content) if you're 18 or
  older.
- **Viewing 18+ stories** — a signed-out reader is asked to sign in first; a
signed-in reader under 18 sees a "not available" message instead of the
  story.

There's no rating in between — a story is either open to everyone or gated
behind this 18+ check.

What may appear behind that check is set by the
[content rules](https://skaz.io/rules): adult themes yes, pornography no.

## Managing your account

Your profile badge on the Studio dashboard shows your name, email, current
[plan](/plans), and how many stories you've used out of your limit.

> There's currently no way to change your name, email, birthdate, or password
> after signing up, and no way to delete your account from the app. These are
> still being built out.
